WILD ANIMALS RETURN TO PARTS OF GERMANY
WILD ANIMALS RETURN TO SOME CITIES IN GERMANY
______(2006) THE ECONOMIST3/18/ 55
Around Saxony, there are two packs of wolves and the lynx is returning. Other wild animals are approaching the cities of what was called East Germany. As the country reunited, many from the former Communist country headed to the more prosperous West Germany. Further, a number are moving from the north to the south. Those areas left behind have become villages of elderly.
The overpopulation folks never wanted a "birth dearth." Rather, they wanted a more even flow of replacement or leveling. This scenario was not in their book.
The USA has doubled its population since 1970. Germany is losing population. Ideally, a nation wants a low dependency ratio. That means lots of people from 15 to 45. They pay taxes and reproduce.
Once an area is caught in a birth decline it becomes a vicious circle downward.
