This is a rough description of what NBC thinks ten years will look from now. The original presentation was May 14, 2007. They also discussed an article from TIME of 1967 that was a prediction of what 2000 would be like. It was way of the mark. A number of futurist are moving away from predictions into projections or alternative futures or looking at the future from a certain perspective with mainstream changes and a few wild cards. What has humbled futurists is that
they have been so wrong. Further, chaos theory suggest that when one tiny but unnoticed variable is slightly modified, over time, it can create catastrophic changes for the rest of us. .
At any rate, this is NBC predictions.
MEDICINE Diabetes will be muted and be more modifiable by less invasive procedures. This also applies to Alzheimer. High tech sensors will help diagnose medicine and there will be a great deal of robotic surgery. Broken bones will be protected with a bone building growth hormone. Medicine will also be adapted to each individuals’ genes. Stem cells will be of great use. .
ENVIRONMENT "The biggest issue is water. Water wars will become apparent as folks fight for water. Australia is now in its worst drought and the water issue is huge.In terms of water, cities will be the first to get it, then agriculture, followed by recreation. Long expensive water lines will trace across the map. In cities, water desalinization will be viable..
IDENTITY SCREENING Most every one will have a micro chip in them. There will also be
scanners for eyes, facial expressions, and finger prints will be able to open one’s private home or car.
Wanted criminals will be able to be scanned from large populations.
POPULATION There should be about 26 million more people. There will be many people in their 50’s and 60’s. There should be lots of cosmetic surgery for age masking and longevity insurance.
EDUCATION Lots of toddlers will be put in competitive situations so that they can perform well in the later life.
That is all of the report. At least, it is non-utopian. In the 50’s, by the 21st century, all of us would have are own helicopters and helipads. We would also work a 3 day work week.
