Sociologist / Futuristic U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Urban
Studies Branch Omaha, Nebraska 1975 Involved in
transportation analysis, recreation cost benefit analysis, soil
analysis, social ecological studies, social geography, and technical
writing. Wrote the first man-to-land analysis for the entire Corps.
This position was held co-terminously with UNO-LEAA position.
Research Consultant LEAA Criminal Justice
Studies Department of Criminal Justice University of
Nebraska Omaha, Nebraska 1975 Wrote or co-wrote
articles, monographs, and technical reports pertaining to criminal
justice with Dr. Vince Webb, Dr. Dennis Hoffman, and Dr. Sam Walker.
We did manpower studies for the midwest and border south of
LEAA.
Instructor of Sociology Dana College Blair,
Nebraska 1969 to 1974 Teaching, counseling, and served as
the Director of the Career Information. With R. Gary Dean, conducted
institutional and social indicator research with a company we
founded called Dell Research.
Vocational Counselor Us Department of
Labor 1969 This originated as one of the “poverty
programs” for this area. Employed in three sub-agencies.
Concentrated Employment Services, Youth Opportunity Center, and the
Omaha Employment Services. In all three sub-agencies, learned to
work with the support agencies Strong, GATB, and DOT codes.
Counseled minority, unskilled, handicapped, and post residents of
the Nebraska Penal Institute. Also counseled displaced and over
qualified applicants.
Teaching Assistant Department of Sociology Omaha
University Omaha, Nebraska 1967 to
1968 Responsibilities were to lecture in the main lecture
hall and to lead in three discussion groups. In the second year, was
a group leader for three other Master’s candidates. My mentors were
Dr. George Helling formerly of St. Olaf College, Dr. Ken Root
formerly of Luther College, and Dr. John Ballweg formerly of
Virginia Polytechnical Institute. Was assistant to the secretary of
Omicron Delta Kappa’s Sociological Inquiry, and to a professor who
started the Center for the Applied Urban Institute.
Research Interviewer Transcentury
Corporation Washington, DC 1967 Interviewed low income
respondents who were involved in either Office of Economic Summer
Youth Program or the Job Corps. The study was a social cost-benefit
study. Also did coding. The entire project was funded by the
Department of Education and Welfare.
Research Interviewer Department of Roads of
Nebraska 1966 Interviewed auto transit respondents for a
density-distance and density origin studies. This information became
the baseline data for Omaha Metropolitan Area Transit study and the
allocation of the North-South interstate connecting with I-80 and
feeder routes near the arterials to I-80
Research Assistant Research Unit of Nebraska Psychiatric
Institute 1965 Trained interviewers with another Research
Consultant. Also drew samples, collated materials, and coded. This
was the origin study for community based mental health centers.
Worked for Dr. Richard Miele now of the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln.
