Canada-bashing the latest thing among right-wingers

I have to shake my head when I read about right-wing commentators insulting Canada in the wake of Mr. Bush's visit to our northern neighbor. Their statements are so outrageous and so irrational that they reveal the main goal of these so-called pundits is simply to get more publicity for themselves. The worst offender, something she no doubt takes great pride in being, is a pathetic little scold named Ann Coulter. Once the darling of the right-wing media, she's seen her star diminish over the years as her favorite targets (the Clintons) no longer command center stage. Now she writes books nobody reads and appears on TV shows as the guest right-wing kook. Recently she said that Canada was "lucky we allow them to exist on the same continent," and that the US could easily take over Canada if it wanted to.
Oh, really? Did she say the same about Iraq, I wonder?
The truth is, once upon a time the US did try to take over Canada - back during what historians unimaginatively call the War of 1812. Of course, we Yanks didn't succeed - in fact, the other side was so miffed that they burned down Washington, including the White House.
Not a very Canadian thing to do, is it?
I guess the point is that people, regardless of nationality, have the annoying habit of fighting back when their country is invaded. That should tell those right-wing pundits something - that people love their native land even if they weren't born in the USA. Of course the pundits couldn't be bothered to care about that. Maybe, though, they can see how silly they look criticizing other countries for not supporting the war in Iraq while ridiculing them simply because they're not American. That attitude not only belies a deep-seated personal insecurity bordering on the neurotic, it doesn't win many friends either.
Of course, the pundits couldn't give a shit about that.

Well, all your other very well thought out and valid points about Canada aside I'll just say this:
Ann Coulter is a ridiculous hateful hag clown. What a useless waste of space.
And I don't make fun of the mentally ill lightly.
