BUFFET & OTHER CEOs NEED BODYGUARDS
Lee Smith, (2004) “Protecting the Boss: Bodyguards have a new clientele” U.S. NEWS& WORLD REPORT, June 7, ee2. That’s right. Buffet is considered the #1 CEO in the states. BUSINESS WEEK rates him at the top and stock holders and consumer think the world of him. He is ethical and doesn’t want any tax cuts. For different reasons both conservatives and liberals like him. So why does he need a body guard? Admirers. They want to stop him and thank him, get his autograph, or ask about income strategies to get rich. He needs the security guard to protect him from those who like him. Without wanting to fans can unwittingly harm or delay important people who need to go to important places to see other important people. Folks appreciate Buffet. Unfortunately, many other CEO’S don’t have that problem.
Theirs is much worse. Want to go overseas? Things get worse. You are one of those rich ugly Americans, and you will need help. The tipping point that triggered security guards was the kidnapping of a hedge fund mogul in Greenwich, Conn. The perpetrators were clumsy and the businessman was found unharmed, but the act triggered bells and whistles to other top elite in the market sector. 9/11 also changed things. Security specialists often not only protect, but survey premises looking for exits and related to keep their client safe. Terrorism also keeps CEO alert and uncomfortable in public. Security specialists provide the necessary assistance in such times of need. They also do advance work, carry extra supplies, and have a comprehensive strategy for numerous ill fated occasions. The security people come from the ranks of police, secret service, military and other protective agencies. Times change and this group is less likely to fade from the CEO circuit.
It only takes one bad incident and the game is up for many who dwell
at the top. The cost if not now will become a tax deduction. When you
see a crowd of important people from now on, you will see numerous
security types not far from them. It just makes sense. If you wanted
that autograph, why not change hobbies to something else. You don’t
want to mess with a bodyguard. They don’t want to mess with you. |
