WHAT AMERICANS WANT TO DO WITH ILLEGAL ALIENS GILGOFF (2006) U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT/ 4/10/25-26 TUMULTY (2006) TIME/ 4/10/30-36 CAMPO-FLORES (2006) NEWSWEEK 4/10/ 28-38
At the time of this writing, any legislation does not appear to be able to pass until after the elections. We were within 2 hours of a bill and then coalitions fell apart. Both parties blame the other party. Thousands upon thousands have marched in support of legalization of aliens. Counter marches should occur soon. In Arizona and in parts of the border of California, minutemen have established themselves to keep aliens out. In some areas large fences have been constructed. NEWSWEEK spent much of the time discussing the crowds of protesters and the type of fencing. U.S. NEWS discussed the struggles between the parties and TIME presented findings on what American citizens wanted. 1. Most see Illegal aliens as a serious problem. 2. Most believe that there is not enough policing on the border. 3.They do not want illegals to get a driver's license, nor attend public school, or receive any subsidies. 4. They favor granting temporary visa, penalizing employers for hiring illegals, stopping illegals from getting into the country, and favor a large fence. They do not want Hispanic citizens deported. also a huge majority want them to earn their citizenship over a period of 6 years and pay a fine. From 1980 to today, now 12 % of the population is foreign born. There are roughly 300 million Americans including illegals. |
