TOYOTA ALMOST # 1 IN SALES IN THE STATES

Naughton, Keith (2005) Red, white, and bold NEWSWEEK, 4/25, 34-36.

Toyota is going to build a huge new facility in Detroit. That’s right. It will be an expansion on their research lab there. What BUSINESS WEEK calls the Toyota level, means that it builds the best car for a cheaper price. The big two still make large guzzlers that require high mateinence.

Toyota is now almost the first place in sales in the states. They are at 18% of the market and GM is at 20%. Additionally, as this is being written GM is struggling in the market place.

Further, the big two or big three fight fuel restrictions, safety requirements, and quality standards. Toyotas just keep going without the hassle. They have also tried bold new styles that left the big 3 in the dust.
