THE SWIFTBOATING OF MCCAIN, OBAMA, AND CLINTON

Swift boating refers to the 2004 election in which a group of veterans who were with Senator John F. Kerry in the Vietnam war indicated that he did  not do anything heroic.

The vets maintained that they were close enough to Kerry that they could see his activity. They said Kerry was lying.  Kerry lost the election of 2004 by about 2 million votes. The swift boat campaign was unusually successful. Kerry did not reply to the ad for 7 to 10 days. By the time he did react, it was too late. However, the FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION in 2006 indicated that the SWIFTBOATS VETS were lying and they were fined $300,000

As we turn to the election of 2008, let’s look at what can be used on the last 3 candidates.

JOHN McCAIN- Here is a hero of the Vietnam War who also spent 5 years in a detention camp in Vietnam. After leaving the service and coming home a hero he had a terrible time with fidelity to his first wife. She had aged significantly and was ill. He acknowledges infidelity and married a beautiful 2nd wife years later. He has terrible temper outbursts and once screamed at Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa. Grassley did not speak to him for a year. He was involved in the Keating Five which 5 senators one of which was McCain intimidated Savings and Loan regulators. NEWSWEEK also questions his managerial skill when his campaign went broke and no one knew who was boss. He is also one of the oldest candidates to run for president. HILLARY CLINTON- She has been vetted. The Right of Center Press continues to emphasize her rigidity in management, her dealing with the futures market, and her health plan of the early 90’s. BARAK OBAMA- He has been partially vetted. He admits to drug use in high school.

He is a Christian convert. Mother was an agnostic. He is black although biracial. Has taken money from a slum lord and is defined as inexperienced. (From debates with Hillary on cable CNN.) SWIFTBOAT STRATEGY: PLAY THE RACE CARD,

How the smear and the advertisement will come out is anyone’s guess. Even though lately, Obama has cleared the air of some animosity about politics,. SWIFTBOATING has a long history in the past and probably in the future, because it works.
