Using a number of brain scans, it appears that the brain is not at rest, rather it is working even more than before. The outward appearance is deceiving, brain scans show that the brain can go into hyper mode. It is sorting out problems and preparing for activities that may lie ahead. THE WEEK (2010) HEALTH & SCIENCE NEWS 6/4/ 22 CELL PHONE USE Studies show that cell phone use and cancer are not related. However heavy phone use is correlated. What is heavy use? That is over a half an hour a day. The findings indicate that with this definition, more brain cancer should emerge. The latest is a 40% increase. KUDZU IS A PROBLEM There is 7 million acres of Kudzu in the south. This fast growing vine can cover an acre in very little time. Don't think green on this plant. It does just the opposite. When it does its job, the plant emits nitrous oxide. It therefore MAKES more air that bothers the ozone. OLDER MORE COMFORTABLE Happiness and enjoyment take a nose dive from 20-50. After 50, folks begin to see that what they have done is probably okay. Asking seniors, how many would like to go back and be 25 again, you don't get many takers. NEW DADS The contemporary father is likely to through the blues like the mother. The midnight feedings, sleep loss, anxiety and loss of intimacacy accompany new fatherhood. HEALTH SCARE Heavy doses of bacon and hot dogs are correlated with colon cancer. Salt and nitrates are the problem. MARRIED WOMEN AND SEX 19 Married women(63%) said they would rather watch a movie, read a book, or take a nap THEN HAVE SEX WITH THEIR HUSBAND. THE ECONOMIST 6/4/ 2010 29-30 It appears that the population is growing slower than what common knowledge thought. However, they are using Gaussian statistics that may be flawed or as flawed as the usual stat treatments. THE WEEK (2010) 5/28 38/ SNYDER Free Trade was a false promise. Globalism means that out sourcing is more important that keeping manufacturing jobs here. Third world pays a tenth of what it does in the states. Further, over there environmental regulations and health benefits are gone. Here workers are forced into dead end jobs and and a minimum wage. Who wins? The rich, corporate lawyers, and brokers. The spread in 70' was 30 times between executives and workers. Now it is over 400 times. TIME (2010) 6/7 Two groups were studied. Both sexes were involved. One group, mother's held their child after they did something that measured to be good. One group had mom and the other had mom on the phone. The 2 groups were then measured for their level of oxytocin. No significant difference were noted. Next study will have to do with answering machines, texting and instant messaging. THE ECONOMIST (2010) 5/28 86 All the things that make males look and act like a tough guy help him spread seed. An anthropologist explains males from an evolutionary theory. The tough alpha male won the right to fight off other males and have sex with many females. That is not necessarily true today. Females have many rights including choosing a mate. They need a steady hand to help raise her children. He can be hot too. Further, people of all kinds can have weapons that act as an equalizer. However, this may explain that most of the cruelest stuff is done by males. Testosterone and lack of empathy are highly correlated. BLOOMBERG/BUSINESSWEEK (2010) DelGludice/Kruger/ 43 THE SAFE HAVEN IS THE AMERICAN DOLLAR. Investors all over the world are putting their money into America's largest equity notes. Why? Even though US has high debt most everyone else in the western world is in worse shape. Incidentally, China and Japan are also investing here. (SOCIALVIBES. NET has a theory. Besides all of our other strengths, we also have a lot of weapons and nukes. We used some on Japan in world war II. Is that right? No, not necessarily, but investment has all kinds of tangibles.)
