THANKS COACH FERENTZ

I want to thank Coach Kirk Ferentz for the last nine years and I hope he stays for a long time. If you discount the first two years dedicated to turning around a program, from third year on, Iowa has won on average 8 games per season, gone to 6 bowls, had a full stadium, and is on cable almost every week. He earned “Coach of the Year” and a number of Hawkeyes have gone on to the NFL. This year’s .500 season must be expected when most of the team are  so very young and inexpereienced. A school that loses some twenty five players to injuries and disqualification is not likely to break even.

If you want excellence, just look to Nebraska. The 40 years of Devaney/Osborne/Solich garnered an 81% win rate. Were they happy? Not really. Solich had a 10-3 season and was fired. Callahan, their present coach and his assistants were all fired after 4 years.

Nebraskan almost lost Osborne one year when he “only” won 8 games. He interviewed at Colorado, and the Big Red changed their minds. Nebraska is going to come back winning and so is Iowa. Keenan Davis (C.R. Washington) and all the talent in this area, we need your help. Iowa beat Illinois and they beat Ohio State. Ferentz will probably make some changes and he needs the talent of all the folks in this area. Those other schools are so far away when you get lonely for home.
