My mother died this way. She was fine at the first of the year and died 30 days later. She weighed about 60 pounds. Staph before penicillin was a major killer among folks of all ages, but especially the elderly. Now we are returning to those days again. Staph keeps outrunning antibiotics and the pharmaceutical companies have not developed new stronger meds. There may be other strategies to outwit the bacteria, but at the moment, there are none. It is best to conduct oneself with the usual cleanliness and hygiene.
Now, to be a tad bit overly hygienic is not a bad thing.
