Sprawl is here to stay

TOLSON (2006) U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT/ 2/6/ 18

Sprawl has been with us since the beginning of recorded history. It was established for the very rich. It has problems. It is economically inefficient, socially inequitable, environmentally degrading and aesthetically ugly.

So why does it exist? So many powerful forces endorse it and it is like a special spot in the heart of the middle class who would like to live like the rich. .

In very crowded countries, it doesn't work. Here, there is so much land and when we run out, we can move to another housing arrangement that is more compact. Most have cars. Most cities, most people would rather drive than  go on the mass transit.
