SINGLES ON THE WARMTH OF THE SUN

BEACH BOYS

THE WARMTH OF THE SUN will be released on May 15th. Digital release is May 22nd.

This the follow up to SOUNDS OF SUMMER which sold 2 1/2 million copies world wide.

This should be a second in a trilogy of albums. For EMI Capitol this material is gold. The songs have already have been recorded so it is a matter of selection. The first trilogy came just a few weeks after PET SOUNDS. PET SOUNDS went to #10 and had 4 top 40 hits  and a couple more chart hits, but it wasn't good enough for Capitol so they rushed out a BEST OF SERIES # 1, 2,&3. All three albums sold about 4 million albums. In the mean time, the longer the time element the better PET SOUNDS became. It ended up as one of the top albums in terms of critical praise and the various releases amounted to a couple million albums sold. The BEACH BOYS have gone on to sell more singles and albums than any other American band and are in the top ranks behind the BEATLES and ROLLING STONES.

The second trilogy was in the 70's and the three albums ENDLESS SUMMER, SPIRIT OF AMERICAN and SUNSHINE DREAM tallied into a couple of million albums. By the 90's another trilogy was released. It was 20 GOOD VIBRATIONS #1, #2 and the BEST OF THE BROTHER YEARS. Again, at least a million albums or more came from that set.

NOW we have THE WARMTH OF SUN, probably the second of 3 set release. With

a mix of top hits, album cuts from the first era, and some critically praised songs from their entire era, this makes this 2nd set vastly different from others in the past. Nearly a third come from

albums that casual fans have never heard. This should get good critical praise and be a commercial success.

Numbers 1-5 are the first era of Beach Boys commercial fame which ended with

SMILEY SMILE. 7-13 ,18 and 28   also come from that era. Number 6 was the second of three hits that came from 15 BIG ONES. The album went gold and to #8 in the USA. Numbers 15-28 with the exception of  #18, and # 27

were during the most creative period for the group. The albums did very well in the U. K. but were less often heard in the states except on college campuses. Number 27 was a sizable hit in the states. So it is time to see if you like this one..

What is ahead? Brian would like Sir George Martin and his son Giles to make a Beach Boys compilation like the latest from the Beatles ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE. I love the album and the Beatles, so I am excited to see if the two will do the same for the Beach Boys. That could be the

third of this trilogy.

I also think that you will like THE WARMTH OF THE SUN (that song originally

dedicated to President Kennedy) as it includes some real sleepers that could become brain candy throughout your day. Surf's Up.
