SHORT HISTORY OF PALESTINE AND ISRAEL
(Due to brevity, there has to be errors in this. Further, my bias is that there be two nations that both prosper. I have Jewish sociological roots and Islamic friendships.)
The land is identified in history by many names and has been occupied by Jews, Muslims, Turks, English and related. Both Muslim and Jews claim to have received word from God that this is there land. Christians also claim this land. Palestine has been dominated by both Egypt and other nations. After world war II, numerous Jews returned to Israel and recreated their holy land after out migrating away from Hitler .Wanting sovereignty is not new. . This is in the same tradition as the Croats,Serbs, Czechs,Poles wanting to return '' HOME." Obliviously, Palestinians did not want this. It had been their country for numerous years. The Jews left with the great diaspora years earlier. . In the 1948, the Truman administration, United Nations, and the Soviet Union supported the part ion of Palestine. The state department, the pentagon opposed it. The American public with so many other problems on their minds had mixed feelings. England appeared publically to be neutral. However, the Truman administration was bombarded with mail from Christians and Jews supporting the new state of Israel. Jews want their country back and Christians of Evangelical stripe and other Christians believe that Jesus will return to this area. After the announcement, war broke out and the area has been at war interspersed by peace since 1948. Within the last year, much of Israel was returned to the Palestinians. Since that time border skirmish have occurred and many Jewish cities are now vulnerable. In this latest war, pronouncements of a World War III to an endless level of skirmishes have been predicted. Israel is now supported by a large cement wall and many Palestinians now live in their own land on the other side of the wall. Israel receives support from the USA and Palestine from numerous Arab and Persian groups. Most Israelis are also armed. All youth serve in the military in some capacity. In this latest war, Israelis face daily threats of suicide bombers and rockets overhead. Palestine faces incredible damage. Palestine sees time on their side. Israel sees a strong resolve that could last for a long time. A leading Egyptian newspaper Al-Ah ram no longer supports the Palestinians. |
