SCHOOL DAYS

U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT (1/10)

This month's edition of U.S. News is filled with ratings of schools and

and how to fix the bad school system. It appears that nothing works. It was

last thought that you should teach to the test. The feds would set the standards and the states would implement them. It was called leave no child behind.

It was un funded and it did not seem to work, because each state had their own

tests and it was hard to make comparisons.

The latest research indicates that school teachers that are defined by others

by their teaching ability to inform and keep interested the students of each generation

is now the magic fix. However, we have been through this before. The ideal

for all the parties is a charter school with collective bargaining in which a

teacher can be fired for being lousy. That means the students don't like them and

their grades on standardize tests are poor. However, the best teachers

are harder to determine. Some very reserved and what would appear unappealing teacher

may really top the charts.

Further, the issue of parenting brings into account the real possibility that

the parents don't want to work with their children or the household is really

dysfunctional. An additional issue is effort and intelligence. Why is it that Black females

have made dramatic increases and the Black male has not. This also applies to

Hispanics.

In the end, if something emerges that really works, I can not see how others will get

in the way.
