Rock is almost dead

Fine(2006) BUSINESS WEEK/ 2/6/ 26

Rock is dying because the market is really fragmenting. During the 60's even up to the early 90's, there really was a rock station or two. Then rock fragmented, music fragmented and rap / hip-hop

emerged. So, radio went to talk or country/gospel.

The bands that can still travel are Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Eagles, Elton John and a few others. Green Day seems to be in good shape. There is not the room for 2nd and 3rd tier bands.

Folks don't buy albums, but iTunes. Singles chart and rock albums struggle. Indies are thriving and the Big Labels are just getting along. The biggest growth is Latin.

Is Rock and Roll here to stay? Maybe
