RAPE

LEE-ST.JOHN (59)

When 2 consenting partners are involved in sex and the male  is in the assertive role, what constitutes rape? In other words, if the union has begun, and the female is in the less assertive role and changes her mind, how long does the male have to disengage? The author discusses

all the various laws and appeals. The interpretation runs from at the moment of the union to

a point where there is loss of control on the part of the male. The preconditions are not that of brutal rape. Foreplay was romantic and consensual. So that is not the consideration. Rather, it is in the mind of the two partners. There is a male sitting in prison for 5 years because he did not disengage in the activity with the female immediately. It took about 5 to 10 seconds. The male did not orgasm. Future decisions have a profound impact on this activity. It also applies to

two heterosexuals who are married.

There are now doctors without dollars. Even though they have trained for 9 years in med school, the last 15 years has seen a diminishment in income with more regulations. So? Doctors are moving into more lucrative careers like cosmetic surgery, alternative medicine or diagnostics. Many of the medical doctors don't believe in what they are doing, but it makes more bucks. Stock brokers do pretty good so that is a possibility. The point is some of the alternative strategies demand cash

because they are not covered by insurance. Cash is good.

The days of the mass media ad that is memorable to many may be over. Do you remember Walter Mondale ask "Where's the Beef? If the ad is to be remembered, it may be on the Super Bowl. However, the big markets are now niche markets on cable, internet , web 1.0 and web 2.0 and related. Times have changed.

BUSINESS WEEK (2007) 2/5

ARNDT (64-70)

As you know McDonald's started small and grew and grew. Then it hit a saturation point. So? They are now open 24 hours a day and they have made some restaurants places where you can sit for awhile. Thus, the 24/7 is reaping profits.

All over McDonald's world  30% of business is from 5AM to 11 AM. From 11 to 2 PM is another 24% of business and 2 to 5 equates 15% of sales. Dinner (5 to 8) is 15% and late night

(8 to 5) is 16%. So, there is money to be made in the wee hours of the morning and breakfast because that makes up nearly half the business.

However, others are now getting in the game. So, it should mute the McDonald's business. What will be the next step in expansion?  Delivery? Expanded menu? Stay tuned.

ROLLING STONE (2006) 11/16

DOWD (54-58)

There is an old adage about the tears of a clown. Comedians are depressed folks. To compensate and cover up their sorrows, they made others laugh. Some got so good that they were

able to make a buck. Maureen Dowd, famous in her own right, interviews Stephen Colbert and John Stewart. They are the Kronkite and the Murrow of today for fake news. What drove them to clowning? Colbert lost his father and two brothers in a  plane crash. His other brothers and sisters drifted away form the family, it was his job to keep his mom laughing. John Stewart was or is a marginalized Jew.
