This one is for the one drop crowd. That means one drop makes you Black. Secretary Colin Powell and President George Bush are related. Powell is Scottish-African and Bush is predominantly English.

So how can Bush be construed to be Black?

8 generations ago in the 13th century, King Edward I was Prescott Bush, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush’s
Great grandfather (8 times removed) His sister Lady Eleanor de Castillie is 8 times removed, grandmother of Colin Powell. Roughly 4 generations after her, the Duke of Gloucester had slave sex partners who were recognized after his death. They begat 4 more generations of Anglo Africans who in turn begat biracial and interracial Blacks.
Powell came from Jamaica. He is light as is his wife and 2 daughters. His son Michael who is director of the FCC at the time of this writing is or appears to be White and can “pass.” Michael’s wife is white.

Bush is Black in the sense that part of his family tree is Black, but he is not directly Black. Go figure.

You can argue that both Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. are Black presidents and that would make 7 or 8 Black presidents. Or, you can argue against that statistic. Have fun.
