PREGNANT MEN
THE WEEK (2008) APRIL 8
PREGNANT MAN (16) Although it has happened once before in history, the gay magazine THE ADVOCATE announced that Thomas Beatie will have a baby. Beatie is bearded and looks like a man, but he does not have male organs. He did not have a complete change. By the way, sex change is harder to go from female to male then the reverse. Thus he kept his vagina and related internals and became pregnant. Beatie is married to a woman, but he will be Mr. Mom.
Further, he did appear on OPRAH and so now the story is the reaction of the press. Most of the conservative press was outraged and the rest of the press had little opinion other than reporting it or supporting it.

BUSINESS WEEK (2008) 4/21
Grow et.al. 33-40. There is a new threat to the computers at the Pentagon. The hackers appear to be coming from China. The new attack is through new and innovative viruses that no or few anti virus programs can stop. Further, phony memos come through that entirely screw up systems operations. There is a history of various attacks that go under such names as SOLAR SUNRISE, MOONLIGHT MAZE, TITAN RAIN, and BYZANTINE FOOTHOLD.
There are over 10 programs to try to kill the invading virus. It is an ongoing ever present danger 24/7 365.
82/ it had to happen again; a new book WHO’S YOUR CITY by Richard Florida maintains that happiness is related to geography almost to the point of being deterministic. However, the reviewer of this book says that the author over reaches. Of course some geographies and locations are superior, but that alone is not enough. Is everyone on balance happy in Hollywood?

RAISING OBAMA (Ripley) 32-46
Obama looks more like his mom than dad. He has lived many, many different places, but his home was in a small town in Kansas. He was constantly adapting. His biological heritage is unusual in the sense that both parents had PhD’s from very good universities. Much of the time, he was raised by his grandparents in Kansas. He is small town, big town. In some foreign countries he lived in poor areas and after his mom graduated he moved into middle classes neighborhoods. He was/is both black and white.
THE NEW REPUBLIC (2008) APRIL 22,
11) The Bush administration has totally intimidated the science community. The article emphasizes the time when scientist were honored in the White house. 18) The good thing about nuclear power is that it is viable and it doesn’t necessary cause greenhouse gases. Unfortunately, the bad thing is that in some rogue states, under the guise of building a nuclear power plant, agents get uranium that can be made into bombs and rockets. 40) The end of history is not the end of history. We are really moving into the 19trth century. At that time, there were really 2 forms of governance. One was a handful of democracies and the other was numerous forms of autocracies. This is what is emerging today. With the diminishment of Command socialism or Communism, most hard left countries moved to hard right countries. So? Now these former Communist countries can trade with the capitalist west. However, hard right has many bedfellows including theocracies, oil kingdoms, fascists, and related. |
