PIGS GONE WILD
BUSINESSWEEK (2008) 3/10
19/
Feral pigs in various Texas pastures just can’t be stopped, Introduced in the 30’s, farm hogs mated with Russian boars. They were placed there for hunting and they thoroughly disrupted the food chain, like the toads in Queensland Australia. Nothing seems to slow them down. There are 2 million and growing and they cause some 50 million dollars in crop loss and related. They are now trying to innovate with a birth control that cuts the Feral pig population, but does not slow down the rest of the plant-animal cycle.
32/ Lessons from the Depression are to keep fed rates low in spite of inflation. There is also a chance that Depression era federal agency would buy up mortgages and reduce them for home owners at more reasonable rates. Thus workers can remain in their homes and help bail out of the housing and financial industries .Both sectors are the worst hit since the beginning of an economic slowdown.
46/ MANDEL/ Are multinationals good for the USA? Since 2000, they have cut 2 million jobs and outsourced them. They pay higher wages than domestic firms and lower taxes than the domestic because they home base themselves in low tax countries. Only 13% are owned by foreigners. Muilti’s lead in Research and Development and charitable giving.

Sixty percent of the world’s energy is wasted as heat. New inventions are trying to get at the small venues to trap energy. There is a kinetic leg energy device that acquires 2.5 watts per step. Energy can be gained by weaving electric nanofibers that rub against each other for energy. Rain power can hit certain strip patches that generate heat and bridge vibrations can do the same thing.

Now you can rate your doctor(s.) No one wants to do such a thing, but it there is a real bandit out there that is bad, this site can pick it up. It is called RATEMDs.com or CareSeek.com/

It is no fun to work on an innovation and have it stolen from you from a big corporation. So? The states can award big money to new innovations and help with the patent fight. The greatest at the moment is a sequestration system or related that can take both coal smoke and heat and make it go far into the ground or make it into something harmless to the environment.

There they are. They are confirmed bachelors. Bachelor societies have emerged before, but it’s back. We are talking about males who never married or lived with someone coming together. They may date infrequently, but that is about it. They believe that like women, there is a second shift when you get home. Even if you don’t do anything around the house, there are still the kids to deal with. No thanks.

By the mid 50’s American Conservatives had hit bottom. The Liberal welfare state was in full bloom under a Republican president. By the mid 60’s Conservatism was making gains that would increase up to this date that this is written. Many people should be thanked, but Mr. Conservative is and was Bill Buckley. Editor of the NATIONAL REVIEW, and author of numerous books and articles, Buckley turned things around. He made being a Tory exciting again. However, he had to transform it. So, he did what he could to get rid of the Klan, John Birch Society, and Jew Haters. His low points were his resistance to Blacks and support of McCarthyism. He died last week. He made civil discourse his main arena in his syndicated PBS show called “Firing Line.”
George Will should replace him. They are of the same stripe and civility.

CYBER BULLIES have it great. Their insecurities manifested not on the school ground on face-to-face basis, but hidden behind a phony URL or triumphant on Web 2.0, they lie and lie. Surely when somebody says something about those who are plain, small, slow, disfigured, poor, or some other like category, bullies have a market. And in some instances, the cyber victim kills themselves.
44/ Why do kids lie? It works. The way to deal with lying is to minimize it. All of us lie. Most are white lies as to not offend another. However, the kids see that. Being real strict and being real lax does not help. You tell them about honesty. You stick to it. Good Luck! |
