NEW BLOOD

Glazer, Nathan (2005) New blood THE NEW REPUBLIC, 5/16, p.46

Glazer had what appeared to be a heart attack. It was a false alarm. However, when he looked around the Boston hospital, he saw something different. Half the people in the room were women. Almost all were young and many had accents. He also noticed that practioners were Chinese, Iranian, Indian, Koreans. Nurses were Boston white ethnics (Irish and Italian) phlebotomists were Caribbean. Nurse aids and related African-Americans.

Times are changing as is the complexion of the medical staff. Of all the perceptions, the emerging dominance of women is probably the most surprising.
