MOVIE THEATERS ARE GOING TO CHANGE

SMITH (2005) NEWSWEEK, 8/5/52-54.

Movie theatres are going to have to change. Profits have remained static for years. On the other hand, home viewing has accelerated. Movies cost too much and so does the junk food. So, here are some ideas in the making.

They are:
1. Movies theaters intermixed with retail shops.
2. Burn a DVD just outside a movie. The longer the movie runs the less the DVD.
3. Trash the movie. Is it bad? After the show, go into a booth and tell why it is bad and what could have improved it.
4. Every movie will be rated PG-13. That means teens with lots of discretionary money can go to the movies.
5. Do you want to direct your own movie? Remake it after you have seen it and make a DVD. There will be technology to do this.
6. One of the cameo actors in the film is there to answer questions.
7. See a great rock concert from another city at your local movie house. That also applies to sporting events.
8. Show niche productions like Indies.
9. There is a cocktail lounge in the front and a movie theatre in the back.
10. There is a restaurant in front and a movie in back.
