MONEY GOES TO PRESTIGE COLLEGES/GAP WIDENS

Symonds, William (2004) “Rich College, Poor College” BUSINESS WEEK, 12/20, p.88-90

There are nearly 3000 universities, colleges, and community colleges in the USA. Most are struggling.
As the wealth concentrates in the country, the elites give to elite colleges and universities. Just 20 institutions received the lion’s share of the contributions. At the other end, small
B.A. institutions and community colleges receive the least amount of money.

For publics, the legislatures continue to cut funds to schools, so that some universities are state schools in name only. They receive very little from that state.

Thus, the problem emerges for most schools except the elite and the chasm between the top and lesser schools continue to increase.

(From my background, any money sent to:
Economic Development/Kirkwood College,
Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 52406 or Economic Development,
Dana College, Blair, Nebraska, 68008) would be appreciated.
