MICROCREDIT REVOLUTION

Emerson, Dorothy May (2005) The micro credit revolution, U-U WORLD, 3-4/, 35-38.

If you want to change the world one family at a time, this may be the strategy. Most other poverty reduction strategies in the 3rd world take billions of dollars and the money end up in the wrong hands.
This strategy as reported here and in Business Week, suggests that poor women receive a 50 dollar loan to grow food for a market stall and the seeds necessary to grow food to sell and for their family to eat.

The loan is returned and the money goes out to another woman. Those that fail can not get a new loan. Or, they repay with larger interest.
