MEGA CHURCHES

Twitchell, James. B, (2005) Jesus Christ's Super flock, MOTHER JONES, Mar/April, 46-49

Mega churches grow as regular churches struggle. A mega church provides the commons or an air-conditioned McChurch with the following characteristics:

1. A post denominational theology is that is far to the right of the Unitarian church, but slightly left of the Southern Baptist.
2. A home for the unchurched Republican.
3. A mega center with adequate parking.
4. A large commons that mimics a small town with book stores, music stores, and numerous social services.
5. A place for worship that is Protestant or post Protestant.
6. A worship service that is high tech, high touch and enjoyable.
7. A place to make friends and also attend covenant meetings of people with special demographics and psychographics.
8. A place that facilitates males to worship without being bossed around in public.

Located on large "campuses" they are near shopping malls and other facilities that are familiar to suburbanites who are likely to move as much as every 5 years.
