MAGNETS AND DEPRESSION

Gorman, Christine (2005) "Resetting the brain" TIME, 3/21, 58-59.

They don't know why but psychiatric researchers have discovered that
when depressed patients have a magnet head gear on their head for 3 days a
week for 6 weeks, the patient gets "better."

It sounds flaky, but somehow it works. In some way, the magnetic coil
and a small electric current seem to reset the brain. In doing so, the brain
begins to operate as it did BEFORE the onset of depression. It is not
painful nor does it take a lot of time.

In a few years, the magnet may be used alone or in conjunction with
anti-depressants.
