MAN COW
THE WEEK (2008) 4/16 20
Man cows have been created in Newcastle University for stem cell research. The cell is made of a partial human egg with a cow egg that has been cleared of its internals. Then the two are formed. Cow eggs are easy to obtain and research can be more easily conducted. There has been considerable outrage at the experimentation. The egg has to be destroyed by the 14th day.
U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT (2008) April 21

Regardless, who is elected, big government should grow. It started with Roosevelt to cope with the Depression. Roosevelt did not get us out of the Depression, but he got us through it. It was World War 2 and the successful aftermath when the USA’s competitors in the West were in shambles. Now in the 21st century, big government is back. Other than those that envision of Libertarian fantasy land, big government has always been with us. The degree of largeness is the issue. Generally, the Right wants a large government with the pentagon and corporate financial insurance as the spoke of a large wheel. The Left wants a large domestic programs and vouchers for the population of workers and consumers along with shared risk. Regardless, one or the other will emerge or a combination of the two sounds more like it. US.NEWS does not like it, but wants banks to be regulated so that they do not create esoteric and hard to understand financial instruments. Nor do they want to continue to bail out corporations that have cheated consumers. They use some stats that may be questionable and again not. However, what they clearly show is that just fixing the infrastructure of the country will cost trillions and will need American workers and the projects can not be outsourced overseas. That should act as a multiplier stimulus to many towns and the workers in them.
On the back page, Mort Zuckerman (82) supports a housing arrangement that involves saving small homeowners with a big government buy-out.
It would appear that Americans love their country, hate their government, hate big government and but love getting the benefits from a large government. Save Medicare and stop socialism. Medicare is socialized medical insurance.

4/ The Pope come to America that is skeptical of him? No, however, American Catholics see him from a distance. The tipping point was in 1968. Pope John the 23rd had opened up the church. After his death in 63’ the church turned again to the Right when it declared birth control a sin. Since then, the priest scandal, the issue of abortion, the allowing of both women and men to become clergy has been turned back. The number of Catholic schools has dropped by half since the early 60’s and priests are hard to find.
Further 25% rarely attend mass, and a third never attend. Few go to confession. On the other hand Roman Catholics now make up 5 of the 9 Supreme Court justices and 25% of the Congress. There has been one Roman Catholic president and two Roman Catholic presidential candidates (Al Smith and John Kerry.) Kerry was adamantly opposed by the church in support of an Evangelical Protestant. The church is America may become small with a heavy concentration of Hispanics and other conservatives. Another American Catholic church may form, but not be legitimate.
5/ it appear that there is a growing food crisis. Population continues to increase rapidly. China and India have grown richer and are eating more. Corn is now used as fuel.
3/ * Students can tell from pictures which males and females are in arousal. * Alligators can endure numerous illnesses because of an additional protein in their blood strengthens their immune system.
*No nuclear war is local. Clouds of dangerous radiation can blow to other countries. Areas can be covered with clouds that cause nuclear winter, and in other areas clear ozone layers to strong sun rays that increase global warming in other areas. * Very smart students are going on drug enhancement meds like athletes. The drug is Ritalin and it can increase brain activity and intelligence. On the other hand the side effects are extreme irrabiltiy.

42/ We should rethink nuclear power. It costs the same as coal with the sequestration device. It is 10 times more efficient than solar and 3 times more than gasoline. Wind cost 5 times as much, but is a good back up. Most alternative fuels are inconsistent. Ethanol other than sugar cane should be thought of as transition fuel. We are going through a nuclear renaissance.
46-50/ Serial monogamy appears to be the emerging norm.
(Note as all of this is written, please consider this. Obama may be over. His speech to contributors in San Francisco about God and Guns as well as his minister’s rants about the USA may be the necessary ingredient to his downfall. In each instance, he was innocent, but this is familiar territory for Hillary now or McCain in the fall. Obama’s words are easy to understand to voters. Complex policies are not. Further, Obama is not good at debating. McCain is. Now let’s see what happens.) |
