LOVE YOU

I remember that sinking feeling I got when I first heard LOVE YOU.

America’s band seemed in a funk. Brian and Dennis voices sounded strained and the usual studio tricks to cover for the vocal sins were not used.

I can’t tell you how many strategies that I have used to make the album listenable. I know. The album has a cult following and American Music Guide gives it 4 stars. However, I could not believe my ears so I took it and played it to my Dana College summer school class in introduction to sociology. They liked it at first but by the time the album (think 1977) got to GOOD TIME, the class in the main said they liked the group, but not the album.

So, here we go. If you don’t like my changes, then enjoy the original.

I have borrowed a few tracks from 15 BIG ONES, so if I could change history, it would be OLD&NEW, LOVE YOU.

Here goes:
IT’S OK / LOOP DE LOOP/ PALISADES PARK/ROLLER SKATING CHILD/ROCK AND
ROLL MUSIC/HONKIN’ ON DOWN THE HIGHWAY/SUSIE CINCINATTI/LET US GO ON THIS WAY/ GOIN’ TO THE CHAPEL/THE NIGHT WAS SO YOUNG/ I’LL BET HE IS NICE/ DING DANG/ AIRPLANE/SOULFUL OLD SUNSHINE MAN.

The consumer gets 9 new songs and they all have a child like quality to them. That is what Brian wanted and all were available at the time the album was created. When you listen to it, not one song stands out as embarrassing. It rocks.

At a later date, the other outtakes could be included.

At the time, Al and Mike begged Brian not to release it. That is according to Daryl Dragon, the Captain who played in the band in the 70’s. Go figure.
