LIVE ROCK BANDS CHANGE THEIR STRATEGY

ORDONEZ (2005) NEWSWEEK 8/8 p. 38

Live Rock bands are changing their strategy. They may cut prices. Blend together with other top groups. Add other props like the Stones do. Have midgets and dancing girls like Motley Crue. Go to venues that are smaller. Take in casinos, after show from ball games, intermission acts.
State and county fairs are also popular.

What happens is that the band gets standing room audiences, and good publicity. If they do it right, it can mean more profits.

A half empty arena tells other promoters not to book this act. However, a tightly packed small amphitheater is just great and they can all come out okay. This especially applies to the fans.

The bottom venues bars and cocktail lounges in motor hotels with seating for 50 are avoided. Everything else is acceptable.
