LET’S GET RID OF THE DISC JOCKEY

STEIN (2005) TIME, 8/15/ 62.

It is happening all over the country. What a radio station needs is an engineer who can sweep up after the station closes down. They will need a key to get in that station and lock up afterwards. Everything else is recorded.

The discs that are played have an ongoing flow of 80’s music. Add advertisements and that is the station format. Nearly 1200 songs are on the disc. It is the job of the engineer to start and stop the machine or feed a new disc.

Although the author did not cover this, new music can be treated this way too. The advertisements are from national chains. Everything flows together. Don’t call and ask for requests. You won’t get it.

Ratings go up, profits go up. Labor costs go down. Who wants to hear a disc jockey?
In an hour’s time, you get 44 minutes of music (or more.)
