THE LATEST ON OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCES/ NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES

KUTLER (2005) DISCOVER, 7/61-67

Kutler traces the early studies on OBE and brings the reader on up to date literature. Early work started in the early 70’s. Protocols were primitive, but authors in second edition books improved the research. By 82’ a doctor who worked on a dead child, accidentally rescued she and she inadvertently identified him later while walking down a hall in a hospital. She pointed to him and said he was the man who put a tube down her throat and saved her. She could not know this, because the doctor immediately left as the girl turned back into life and the med techs took over. She was dead for 19 minutes.

It appears that there are bodily functions that occur as intervening variables before a person moves on to what appears to be life after life.

Those that do die become more empathetic, more emotional and sensitive to others, and do not fear death.

It appears that those who experience mystical states, OBE’s and near death have a rush of dopamine to the right temporal lobe. Other areas of the brain become quiet. This sets the body to die. In other words, many see themselves from a position outside their body and they watch the body fall from great heights. They talk to the body.

When an individual can recount fairly accurately life after life and comes back to life hours later, then it would appear that there is something going on beyond science.

The little girl described earlier, drew pictures of a heavenly existence. She was told that she needed to return to help her mother raise another child that would be born 4 years later. She got a brother… 4 years later.
