To get the best of this story go to google and you will see that there are hundreds of small websites that carry this story. Their page rank is low, but the cumulative effect is to go down as a premier urban legend.

The essence of the story is this:

THE CAMBODIAN GOVERNMENT ALLOWED 40 LITTLE PEOPLE TO FIGHT ONE MATURE LION. NO PICTURES WERE TO BE TAKEN. THE FIGHT WAS TO BE HELD IN A SIZABLE RING WITH A LIVE AUDIENCE THAT WAS FILLED TO CAPACITY. THE LION WITHIN 10 TO 15 MINUTES KILLED 28 HUMANS AND INJURED THE REST.

The story was run on a fake BBC news template. It looked real. Two Websters were arguing about how many people could be duped by this story. It originally was to be run on one small website linked only to some best friends. However, it got connected to some big sites and the rest is history. It was carried on radio, television, and numerous websites. As time went on and the story reached hundreds of website, the originator called a halt to the story and a retraction. He wants to avoid a lawsuit by BBC. I had already sent an e-mail to BBC with questions about the news. They did not reply.

At any rate, one Webster fooled another and so it looked real. However, by this time, the story had spread and he revamped with retraction and the word FAKE.

Within a few days, the originator was overwhelmed and the story gets sent out through numerous venues about the in authenticity of the killing. He also apologized to little people whom he called midgets.

Then the radio stations began to report the event. He was e-mailed that this was being broadcast and he sent e-mails to those stations saying it was fake. Things were really getting out of hand. It also started making URBAN LEGEND websites. Others were reporting that this story was very similar to an account in a Sci-fi book and that he should watch out for a law suit from that publisher.

Within the first week, the original website had generated 56,000 hits. More radio stations were reporting on the stories. Hate mail started poring in as well as a demand for T-shirts that promoted the fight.

In the mean time, the article is FAKE. The author apologized and is now trying to make some money on t-shirts about an urban legend that worked.

And so it goes. And so it goes.
