There are nearly 1200 two year school in the USA. Over half the student population attends junior and community colleges. Kirkwood is now 29th in the country. The school is located in a lightly populated area of the state of Iowa and its home Cedar Rapids is over 100, 000. The growth has been spectacular. In thirty five years, Kirkwood has grown from under 200 students to 15,500. Class size, tuition costs, and workplace development have increased the size dramatically since the mid 80’s. Sometimes the growth is a thousand student increases over the preceding year.

It is the 3rd largest school in the state. It follows the 2 universities.
