Jason Snell is a multimedia artist residing in New York City. His works include fine art, interactive digital projects, and electronic music. His fine art is illustration-based. Jason grew up reading comic books and learned to draw by imitation. He attended the University of Iowa, and graduated with a degree in Graphic Design, which blended is illustrative work with the digital realm. Also at the University, he was exposed to foil imaging, a program unique to that school. Jason continues to use a combination of foil and graphite to create colored, luminescent illustrations. His digital work is primarily using Flash to animate and program interactive projects, including websites and films. He animated and scored the music for Forest Grove, an online film that premiered at Sundance 2005. Jason's music work includes a 10 year career in techno, and is now working on film scores for independent features and shorts.

Technique
The technique of using foil consists of using translucent tinted foils and adhering them to printmaking paper with a clear acrylic polymer. Heat and pressure are used to transfer the foil on to the coated paper. Next, the foil is melted and manipulated with small amounts of methyl alcohol, giving the color a watercolor-like effect. The last layer is a graphite transfer where the image is drawn reverse on tracing paper and transferred on top of the foil, also using heat and pressure. It is similar to printmaking, where the image is made in layers: adhesive, tinted foil, then the graphite.
