______(2006) THE ECONOMIST/ 8/19

45-46/ Anti-Jew feelings are surfacing in some areas of Europe and not in other areas. America shows the most approval. Right wing parties overseas feel guilt for what they did to Jews in the past and now are pro-Israeli.

There is very little support for Olmert anymore. He hyped the war and the social psychological aspects of war (psywar) was disastrous. The opposition won by not losing. Israel should go back to the beginning and promote itself as a parliamentary democracy among authoritarian states. That Muslims in Israel have more rights than in most countries.

Additionally, it is now really a tiny country  with 7 million most of which (88%) are Jews. Further, there are now no horizons of oblivious hope for lasting peace. This little country will always be at war at some level.

It can continue to make overtures to Egypt and Saudi Arabia as they are tired or appear to be tired of  continuous on going war. They can distance themselves from the Iraq war. They may also want to make highly visible contributions to Palestine that can not directly bring harm to Israel. They should receive state of the art weaponry (some 2 1/2 billion from the States) and use the weapons sparingly.

Jews must become the force for moderation and a pitch to the left that they are a democratic socialist country. To the right, they are a market economy and a western nation located in the middle east.

Last, if Jews don't survive here, it could spell the end of a very old and honored religion without a home. The next diaspora if it comes, could definitely reconfigure the middle east with Shia versus Sunni.

If Jews can promote the little country that could, it can with the hearts and minds of the west and a few moderates in the middle east.

59/ In the past 5 years, those with 1 million or more increased 20% as the rest of population stagnated. It is good for the rich and their banks.

64/ Some economists think that America needs a good old fashion recession to get its house in order. USA has high debt and lots of slippery options all over the world. Rather than a ton of countries owning the States, a recession would bring Yanks back to its senses.

65/ There is now medicine and money to fight AIDS.Many males refuse to use condoms, but females are now getting liquefied condoms to fight unintended pregnancy and death from AIDS.

66/ We need more research on those who get AIDS or should get AIDS and  they don't. What is going on here?
