INVASION OF THE GREEN MACHINES

Newman, Richard (2005) Invasion of the green machine, U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT, 5/9, p.49-54.

It appears that gasoline may temporarily go down, but that higher prices appear in the future because more countries are now competing for oil. This especially includes China.

So, the hybrid appears appealing especially to those that do a lot of commuting. The car of choice. The big winner appears to be the TOYOTA PRIUS. With its distinctive style and great gas mileage, the Prius appears to out sell the others. American car companies only offer one model from Ford.

Others dismiss this as a fad and that when the purchase of about 3% of all cars are hybrids, yanks will go back to regular cars.

Only time will tell. However, the green machines are selling at a premium price right now. Detroit has fought other foreign car innovations and safety features that became very popular. All of GM is only slightly ahead of TOYOTA.
