INTRODUCTING THE "IT" GIRL OF THE INTERNET
THE WEEK (2007) 3/30 ______(44-450 I would like to introduce you to Cory Kennedy. She is the IT girl of the internet right now. Without the help of agents, buzz, talk shows, talent, nationwide tour, she has become the darling of the internet. She has been seen with THE BRIT pack and THE WEEK shows of picture of Cory with Lindsay Lohan. The Brit pack make CD's, x-rated videos, party plenty and then go into rehab as a cry for help. Cory is paid a hundred dollars a night just to show up in certain clubs. She has her own column in NYLON, a BLOG on YOU TUBE and is now moving into the fashion industry. Her parents don't know much about it. She tells them that she is big, but they are cyber challenged and really DON'T KNOW. Here is how it happened. Cory had a boyfriend who loved to take pictures of her and put them on his internet web site.. Cory dresses edgy and has hair that is disheveled, but in a groovy way. All these pictures on the internet exploded onto thousand of sites and fan clubs emerged in Europe and Asia. Then came more pictures of Cory shopping, eating, riding around in a car. Folks could not get enough. So it kept coming. All Cory had to do was show up. Her doe eyes and disarrayed hair won over the techie crowd. Cory is famous and will make much more money now. As this is being written she is on the cover of 4 magazines including THE WEEK. Mom and Dad finally understand. (17 ) Recruiting is improving for the Pentagon. There are wider variations up to the 40's in age, lower IQ, and sign ups at high schools. The biggest obstacle is PARENTS. As much as the students want to see the world, learn a skill and serve their nation, parents see them slogging through Iraq dodging bullets. They also see that their kids could be killed by an innocent looking child with a bomb wrapped around their stomach. (23) Billionaires are up 20 percent from last year while 4 billion people dropped to $35.00 a week. Gap continues to increase in the USA.
TIME (2007) 4/2 BIEMA (40-46) TIME wants the Bible taught in the classroom. If it would be an elective or a core course is discussed. The Bible class is usually packed with Evangelical students. The constitution allows the teaching ABOUT the Bible. So who would teach it? In poor school districts, a minister or priest might teach one course. The reason the Bible should be taught in public schools and not excluded is that the Bible is all around us. However, if it is not an elective, I as a Christian moderate would not want it taught. Let's say my child is in an area that has a large Evangelical population. Moderates, Jews, Non-sectarians, and other world religions are outnumbered and could be beat up after school. This is also true if the course is taught in urban areas of professionals. They are more likely to be moderate and can outnumber the fundamentalists. What are you going to do with the LOST CHRISTIANITIES such as Arian Christians, Gnostic Christians and Metaphistes. Does the literal interpretation of the Bible support the inferiority of Africans, submission of women, slavery, the theological wing of evolution? How about wearing synthetic clothes, and killing children who broke the rules? This could INCREASE the culture wars not bring us together. Another strategy is to have a World Religions course. Although there are 10,000 religions, most people belong to a handful. Miracles abound. Buddha lives with us today. Confucius lives in the clouds. Lao-Tsu resurrected. Mohammed visibly ascended from earth to heaven to join God. Abraham was the first human EVER to be in contact with God. Moses worked miracles. Krishna will reduce your number of incarnations. TIME'S answer is, we'll get a course from the courts and we will fix it. If that is the case, then maybe there is room in the curriculum. Perhaps, if it is an elective and the Bible is taught from a number of perspectives, then it might go well.
RAWE (49-51) Numerous colleges across the country want to drop out of the U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT rankings. They suggest the data that should be drawn is, do the student's like their experience and what did they do after graduation? A new alternative ranking may be out this fall. POINIEWOZIK (68) The big 3 media is hanging onto it's older audience. However, in the long run, it is not likely to expand. The change is that NBC leads, but is now tied with ABC. CBS continues with third and 2 million less viewers. Much was lost for ABC with the death of Peter Jennings. Charles Gibson is now finding his niche from Jennings with the short interim of Liz Vargas who co-anchered with war causalities (who is this? tell me at jsnell@socialvibes.net or jsnell@kirkwood. edu) Brian Williams is doing nicely replacing Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric is taking Dan Rather's place. |
