HOW TO MAKE THE USA "BETTER"

suggest ways that could make the USA a better place to live. Each individual writer suggests that one country or another are using a certain social strategies or technological strategies that MIGHT be of use in this country.

Here is the  list.

HEADDEN (40) The USA does have enough to be proud unfortunately our every day lives as measured against other countries put us toward the middle or the bottom of the pack. So here are some suggestions.

CURRY (42) MUCH OF EUROPE/  Holland and England are moving toward taking down signs telling you what to do. When the signs are gone, folks slow down and drive more cautiously.

GERMANY & NETHERLANDS/ Make bike paths more available and easy to use.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC/ Get parents out of some baseball and softball and let kids play ball all day long if they want to. They are healthier and happier.

COLOMBIA/ Make busses more upscale and attractive to the middle class. Outside stations are good for cold weather and have a public  phone. Make more busses run on established routes. Have them filled accruements that middle income people like.

FINLAND Make traffic fines based on one's annual income. EUROPE/ Cut costs for taking an airplane. Don't provide food or beverage, make plane interiors spartan, periodically have

seats for free. JAPAN/ SOUTH KOREA Want a drink, pay with your cell phone.

FRANCE/ Introduce conversation to cultures. The conversations are learned and to have a good one becomes an art. JAPAN Make the toilet high tech. Provide music and air spray and make sure that the toilette seats lights up for night time. A bidet also helps rather than toilet paper. AUSTRAILIA/ Encourage kids to wear hats to protect from the sun .AFHANISTAN Learned to be an excellent hosts. Keep costs down by having everyone bring something to eat.

JAPAN Cut portions that one eats. Stomach become full and weight does not go up.

NETHERLANDS Global warming? The sea level rises, Netherlands has the highest and most sophisticated levees in the world. FINLAND has the least gap between the smartest and weakest students.Fins rank first among 40 countries on the basics of science, math, reading. How do they do it? Make class as heterogeneous as possible, strong students teach the weak students .Other attributes: free school until 9th grade, open public school choice, small classes, free transportation,

healthcare, textbooks. Teachers continually evaluated, must have masters in their subject, and given prestige the same as doctors and lawyers. Continuous testing of students. GERMANY Prostitutes are trained to work with the elderly .SWEDEN From first  grade on, sex is taught as a natural act.

Most will have sex before they are 20. So teach, teach, teach. In sex, no one should be hurt, and no one should have unwanted children. Sex should involve affection.The result? Low STD's,

and one of the lowest level of single mothers in the world. Contraceptives are free.ITALY

food should be part of life. One should eat slowly .TAIWAN take an  afternoon nap. JAPAN

Make all children clean up after themselves and scrub floors at schools and other public places.

NETHERLANDS Make drug abusers work for the community. Treat as a disease. It is cheaper than prison. Prison is for dealers. Rehab is low but you get something for your money.

SINGAPORE Did you throw a gum wrapper on the floor? That is a $1,000 fine.

Graffiti? That is felony .EUROPE There are tiny holes in the road so that runoff of water

is filtered back to the sea. Tiny holes in the road do not hurt cars and they slow down.

government. UNITED KINGDOM Take a break and don't go directly to college EUROPE cut sprawl .DENMARK 20% of their energy is from wind. UNITED KINGDON has health coverage for all. It is tax paid and U.S. News would prefer large or giant corporations to provide the service rather than government. Government should monitor and measure performance in all locales. U. K spends one third of what US pays and everyone is covered. JAPAN  has the longest life expectancy.
