GOING TO THE MOVIES

Business Week on cable.

Folks are no longer going to the movies. The movie theatre began to lose the masses with television. However, they regained some prominence over the years with numerous marketing strategies.

However, the trend now appears downward. What to do?

First, DVD’s are now released with in 90 days rather than 6 months to a year. Second, the On Demand cable releases are sooner, and last 2nd tier movie theatres are getting movies faster.

It would appear that movies chains will downsize and more movies will be targeted at select audience. Don’t expect certain critical hits to play in the great heartland. Rather, a popular movie will be in 4 of the seven theatres and rapidly pick up the DVD and DVD rental mail and rental store.

For a family of 4 a night out at the movies can run $50.00 and the food and colas are over priced.

One marketing heretic suggests that a movie be released at the same time in all the various distribution systems (movie house/rental/on demand/ DVD purchase and related.
