GLOBALIZATION AND OTHER ESSAYS
______(2006) THE ECONOMIST 7/29 (63-64) Globalization may face slowdown because at the base is resistance from farmers who will lose subsidies. Farming is subject to the weather and the erratic expansion of global warming. This leaves a lot of land without merit to grow crops. Thus, the subsidy exists. To stop globalization, would require undoing myriads of agreements on thousand or products. However, the DLC of the Democratic party suggest cushion and ladders to provide security to workers who can easily be outsourced. (32) The DLC suggests the following to help American workers: more tax breaks for home ownership, $500 dollar bond for new babies, health care costs that would be put in a nationwide pool for small businesses to cut costs for them and leverage against drug companies, more subsidies for college training and longer school hours. Tax cuts to the rich would be rescinded. All of this and more would protect workers from globalization. I would like to suggest that those losing jobs to outsourcing receive a one year wage insurance and tuition free fees to a community college to retrain. ______(2006) BUSINESS WEEK 8/7 (60) Top 10 brands Coca-cola/ Microsoft/ IBM/ Intel?
