FREE NEWSPAPERS

Garo, Lauren (2005) Free press gets a whole new meaning, BUSINESSWEEK, 1/31, 74-75

The print end of the press is losing it's position to electronic cable and the computer. This really applies in big cities, so the press is going to be free. It makes its money on advertisements.

Here is the hook. The paper is short (4 to 6 pages) There is lots of graphics and pictures. The writing is dumbed down or very easy to read. Serious news is shortened. Tabloid stuff is increased. There is lots of skin of both sexes. Material is light. Particular information targeted to 18 to 24 year olds is increased.

Vendors pass them out to crowds in big cities during the noon hour and after work. The paper is free. It is a quick read and easily tossed (recycled?)

Other papers can hit the big university campuses in the city and other places where
20 year olds hang out.
