FAIR BUT NOT BALANCED BUDGET

Galbraith, James K. (2005) Fair, not balanced MOTHER JONES, 6-7/ 32-35.

The debt built under George W. Bush will not go away immediately. Democrats may want to criticize, but it will take years to move toward a more balanced budget. Part of Bush’s plan is to starve some social programs, but for the most part he is trying to prime the pump giving money to the rich.

If a Democrat whines about the budget, they will continue to lose elections. American voters don’t like to hear bad news. If a Democrat president and legislature want to roll back the tax cuts on the rich they should replace it with more money on health care for the bottom 90%. They may want to spend money on the infrastructure, but to quickly try to reduce the debt (the USA has the highest debt in adjusted dollars than another country) would be disastrous financially and politically. It could cause a major recession.
