ENEMIES OF AMERICA INCLUDING JIMMY CARTER

NEWSWEEK ( 2007)2/5

ADLER(46)  There is a new book outlining the enemies of America. We have had lists before. Joseph McCarthy claimed to have a list and before he could  produce one he had to contact a gossip columnist to get something from Jack Anderson.. He was finally censured by the Senate when he listed most of the Pentagon as communists. Later Richard Nixon had an enemies list and now Dinesh D'Souza has a list. He is with a right wing think tank and has produced some other controversial books. First, he takes pains to say that they (Leftists) do not know that they are helping the enemy but they are. By not supporting Bush, they help Muslim extremist. He takes one of Bin Laden's manifesto and deletes the first part which indicates that the West has tried to screw the Middle East economically. By deleting this part, all Right wingers are okay. The second part deals with the West's depravity like pornography, gambling, prostitution,  and homosexuality. Jimmy Carter is faulted for his new book. Sen. Hillary Clinton for promoting Sexual- slavery. Well, she did not do that but she did work on the wording in a 2002 law AGAINST sex slavery. . The law became stronger. And on and on.

D'Souza should make a buck on this, but you have to know the context from which he selectively

chose his portrayal of each person that does not agree with him.

Alan Reynolds has got a story for you. The growing inequality in America is not really growing. It has a lot to do with number crunching and definitions rather than true accounting. To conservatives, the inequality is not bad. However, a bad vote getter is trying to defend the perception of the

inequality in America. At the moment, in a presidential race about half of the potential voters carry out their duty on election day. During off election years, about a third of the country votes.

So he writes in the WALL STREET JOURNAL that income inequality is a matter of perception.

In other words, the inequality is a matter of dispute, not settled fact. This is news to a number of

conservatives like Mort Zuckerman, editor of conservative U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT who has done a number of articles on this issue. Further, the ECONOMIST of the UK

indicates that inequality is alright in their conservative perception, what bothers them is that Bush

has stopped student tuition and thus the socialist countries of Scandinavia and Europe

have higher mobility rates than America. Here is one. The top 1% is paying more than ever in taxes. . However, Zuckerman of U.S. NEWS reminds readers that the top 1% may pay more taxes, but it is at a lower rate and that their income and dividend is so great that it surpassed any amount in recent history. They pay more taxes because they make more money than some small countries do.

In 1970. a CEO was paid 20 times that of the average worker. Today, it is something like

400 times.  In other words, Reynolds is trying to muddy the water. He is a senior fellow at the conservative Hudson Institute and previously with the right wing Cato institute.

THE ECONOMIST (2/2)

THE GREENING OF AMERICA.

It is like a perfect storm. America is finally warming up to energy policy and environmentalism for it's own good. Obliviously environmentalists support it, but so do military hawks who see that oil cause trouble in the middle east. So having more energy at home should help. Fiscal hawks do not want to keep paying top dollar for foreign oil so they favor it. Alternative energy and nuclear fuel people want to see their products because it is profitable and does not generate carbon heat. Even clean coal wants in the act because we have so much. It is also can be cleaned with minerals and scrubbers in the chimneys. However, it still generates heat, but the machinery has an option to put on the very expensive heat reducer. Further, the White House professional workers have just come forward this week to say that they have been pressured and censored to dismiss global warming. Last Exxon-Mobil is moving away from apologists at the Cato Institute that says global warming is a myth.

If all this comes about, the USA generates the most heat of all countries. We may still have flooding from the global warming, but business has done it's part and there MAY  be less water covering the USA. Americans will also adapt and move from shore lines. That will be an expensive change, but probably a necessary one.
