That's right. There is such a thing as cheap love tokens in the animal kingdom. Some bugs of the male variety bring food and if accepted by the female, sex incurs. However, there are some creeps who bring twigs and cotton and whatever that won't help the female and she is fooled. Alas, sex commences. It ain't fair. However, it happens. Thus the female delivers little ones and no food is available. And so they all die off. What is the survival value to that? Ask an evolutionary biologist. I am not one.
