CANADA BASHING

Leo, John (2005) Canada can not save you U.S. NEWS &WORLD REPORT, 2/21, 74.

I watched the Canadian news for years. Talked with people who have been to Canada like I did. Read Canadian news. John Leo does not like Canada. Here is why.

1. Boring football. So what?
2. Radio music must be 1/3 Canadian. Yeah? Well that makes up for the cultural onslaught from UK and USA. Canadians are not forced to listen to Canadian radio.
3. More Crime. Are you kidding? They have a low murder rate and are generally low in most categories except for 3. If you really want to be a victim locate yourself in the highest crime regions of the USA. That includes the west and the south. Canadians have plenty of guns. They just don't use them. I just came from the CBC news and Toronto was shocked that they had 2 murders this last week.
4. He doesn't like Paul Martin the prime minister. Well, most countries don't like George Bush. Perhaps that may change, but it applies at this time.
5. The food. He doesn't like the names of foods and one dish actually has lead in it.
Man that is a stretch. American food looks good, taste good and is bad for you. If you go to an American super, look at the content, you can still get a good meal. For Canada, it is the same thing.
6. Canadian medicine. The USA has the most expensive medicine in the world. It also has so-so mortality and morbidity rates. This applies even without minorities and poor. As it is, the funds are being decreased for the 2 groups previously mentioned. He borrows from the Heritage foundation who borrows from the Canadian Hereford foundation that finds anything to report that is bad about Canadian medicine. If you live in Canada, you chose your own doctor. If things are too busy, you can go to the states with your Canadian voucher and get it here. There is a long wait for 70 year olds that break their hip. So they get pain meds and a nurse that will come to your house. Most everyone gets taken care of.
7. Censorship. Canada has hate speech laws. If you want to know about the USA go to papers in other countries. Many things are not reported or covered over. The story about monitoring all USA phone calls came first from Canada and a number of papers in the USA fogged it over. Ask your local editor to run a story on Bohemian Grove on the 15th of July. He won't do it.
8. Canada is trying to be like Europe. So what? Most countries are becoming a lot like each other. Canada was a UK province. Where most countries of the first world are going is not happening in the USA. Go to the story of Pew Research on this website called Conservative America. We are conservative. 40% believe that the sun rotates around the earth. 55% believe that world is about 6,000 years old. 20% of Americans believe that they are in the top 1% economically. That's conservative!

You read John Leo and decide for yourself. I like my countrymen, but this guy is something else. I didn't say he was an Ugly American, but I will bet he would happy to call Canadians .Canucks.
