CAN THE ECONOMY SAVE THE DEMOCRATS?

Risen, Clay (2004) “Debt Riders” THE NEW REPUBLIC, 11/29 P. 21

With the fall of the dollar, it appears that the Democratic party can be the party of the center. If they can moderate some of their social agenda, the party can join forces with fiscal conservatives of the Republican party to stop expensives changes that are needed in the Bush second term to initiate the “ownership society.”

The economy is now showing mixed signals as the stock market has risen and the dollar is falling. At any rate “deficit talk” appears to be an important issue that ranks up there with “moral values.”
