CONSRVATIVE MANDATORY HEALTH INSURANCE

KLEIN (2006) TIME/2/13/ 21

It is now discussed in the conservative WEEKLY STANDARD. It is universal mandatory health insurance. All the details are not known, but it is the Chafee Plan of 1993. It is quietly being discussed in business circles to unions, think tanks and other interested parties. It subsidizes the working poor and asks the rich to pay for it. In the end, the middle class pays for the middle class.

By putting everyone in a large pool, it reduces costs. In other words, the business community gets out of the health business. American cars cost a bunch because the health plan is as much as the

metal in a car.

Senator John Chafee back in 1993 had 20 GOP senators with him, but the Clinton's turn it down for Hillarycare. Democrats would jump on it today. Would it get by the Bush White house? Don't know. Big Pharma would want  that the health insurance COULD NOT bargain for lower costs.

At any rate, this bit of information  was in 2 paragraphs dealing with another issue in the Bush administration. This could be a sleeper. Watch for it.
