COMPTERS INTERPRETING RESEARCH RESULTS
_______(2006) THE ECONOMIST/ 3/25/ 83
We may be on the verge of a tipping point to a new paradigm shift that Thomas Kuhn described years ago. Recall that the first telescoped undermined the Aristotelian concept that heavenly bodies are constant without change and orderly. Also, calculus lead the way to formulation of laws of motion. Now 34 prominent scientists believe that the computer will make a paradigm shift in science. Computers will be able to INTERPRET or help INTERPRET research results. Now, computers can form "data cubes" that can collect a number of independent variables. This is extremely important because the collection of data is exploding geometrically. Further, dependent variables can also be collected in groups to analyze. Last, MODELING may also be constructed by the computer independently or conterminously with humans. |
