CIRCUMCISION FIGHTS AIDS

THE WEEK (2007) 1/26

_______(16)  Circumcision appears to fight AIDS. This is a quick and easy surgery. Men who had contracted AIDS were 60% more likely NOT to have been circumcised. This is not a magic bullet, but suggests that the AIDS virus can be contained in the skin pouch surrounding the penis. Men who do not clean themselves daily will have bacteria and related grow inside their pouch. When circumcision occurs all the  related residue is instantly reduced into a receptacle or in some other fashion. Further, a vaccine is thought to be ready by 2013.

______(15) More women are staying home temporarily to raise kids. The reason? Men don't help.

Thus they have two jobs. Further, there is peer pressure to stay at home. On the other hand, the financial consequences can be considerable. This is particularly true if the female makes considerable money .Numerous surveys found that couples assumed that the female would raise the kids. This puts her at cross purposes with the market.

______(20) For the first time, more women are living without men. In 2005, 51% live without a male adult partner. However, the stats must be disassembled. How many are never married, divorced, marrying later, living unmarried. The article does not say about these sub nations.

_____(24) Women along with choosing  a male likely to help raise her children also must like the natural smell of the male. The chemical cocktail also applies to males, but at a much significant

lower rate.

_____(31) Carly Simon's INTO THE WHITE scores three stars. She reprises numerous songs from the past including one from her former husband, James Taylor. She blends acoustic with

straight up singing. Included are the Beatles' BLACKBIRD.

_____(44-45) Personal Assistants are the individuals who assist the big movie stars. It is a pain in the butt. They usually last a few years. None want to be thought of as Kato Kaelin.

THE ECONOMISTS (2007) 1/20

 _____ (32-34)

Who loses out in the globalized society? Those with less education, not willing to move and move, and train and train. All are vulnerable. There has been a net loss of a million jobs in USA. New jobs make on balance than old jobs. Management and me ga-corporation are the winners.

Denmark has a system to account for this. You work and when laid off due to outsourcing you receive 80% of pay and retrain. That would be too expressive for USA.

______(42)

Colorado keeps changing based on immigrants from California. At first they got Orange County types so the state went to the right. Now they are getting immigrants from North California. They are professional, educated, and Liberal so the state is changing.

_____(3-20)

17 pages are spent on why CEO's should get paid hundreds times more than the average worker.

Gosh.

_____(70-71)

Do good ers who are trying to help others from starvation and pain, are getting shot to death. Although the do-goods remain neutral, they could be helping (inadvertently) one side or another in a civil war in Africa. So? Kill'em. No good deed should go unpunished. If you are doing these acts of compassion for Buddha or Jesus, why not kill them. They are easy to shoot and they don't shoot back.

_____(71)

Good looking people get all kinds of favors. They also win elections. However, if they are too pretty these folks lose the electorate. The best a not as good looking candidate can do is keep

calling the other "pretty." That can mean that they are pretty dumb.

____(87)

Language and color appear to be intertwined. They compliment and shape each other.

There appears to be 6 fundamental colors and language provides the nuance. It also appears to be part of both hard wiring and culture.

____(88)

There is a new cheap way to stir things apart like a centrifuge. Pour blood into a cup of tea and stir.Do not put milk in it .Testing kits could be assembled that are the size of a credit card.

_____(89

In the 30's, a theory was developed that cancer can be "cramped" now animal studies suggest that it can. Cancer cells need "glycosis." Without it, cells run wild. There is more to explain so see the article.

TIME (2007) 1/29

Klein(26-28)

Democrats can do well in the Rockies if they allow their candidates to be socially conservative and economically moderate or populist.

Gumbel (48-49)

Who needs the USA?  The dollar is diminishing and the economies in east are doing well. We still have weapons, however, if China dumps the dollar on a Friday afternoon, does that mean we go to war? Europe is doing pretty good too. The 9 trillion dollar debts is weakening the country.

______(50-120)

THE BRAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+ There is not a clear consensus dealing with the term MIND, SELF, CONSCIOUSNESS.

+ We have the illusion of control. Near death can be simulated (heard that before.)

+ With a great deal of time and support, brains can rewire themselves.

+ Buddhist monks know how to deal with thinking positively and it does not mean forcing oneself to be happy and have a fake smile.

+ There are numerous ways to deal with stress.

+The pathways to the brain include psychology, meds, brain surgery, gene therapy, and related.

+ We know about the brain because of scanners (fMRI. PET scans and others.)

+ Contrary to contemporary findings, babies do know much.

+ We can invade your brain to discover perhaps secret information, should we be allowed to do that?

+ emotions flavor our memories.

+we know how to mimic and marketing can get at our desires.

+ we don't want to own bad emotional decisions.

+Hope sure helps the brain.
