Up to the 1940's, sex for married Catholic meant reproducing. Sex unto itself was wrong. In the 40's, sex was acceptable and not sinful if one used the rhythm method. In his first encyclical, sex with pleasure or lust is now acceptable. Females or Males can fantasize about their mate without committing a sin. They can also enjoy sex without violation of the spirit. Birth control however is a sin.
